Process Optimisation of non-cyanide Ag-PTFE metal matrix composite electroplating for threaded connections

Silver-PTFE metal matrix composite coatings were deposited onto ANSI 304 stainless steel to assess the potential of using a novel non-cyanide electroplating process to produce a corrosion resistant, self-lubricating composite coating. During this study, 32 different bath parameter sets, derived from 5 variables were used to develop the non-cyanide electroplating process without the use of a sur...

Wear Performance of Ti Based Powders Coating on SS 304 by PVD Method

The PVD techniques range over a wide variety of applications from decorative, to high temperature superconducting films. The thickness of the deposits can vary from angstroms to millimeters. A very large number of inorganic materials—metals, alloys, compounds, and mixtures—as well as some organic materials can be deposited using Physical vapour Deposition (PVD) technologies. Traditionally, the ...

Mechanical Characterization of Friction Welded AISI 304 Steels

There are many industries where austenitic stainless steel needs to be welded specially in power generation industries. Unfortunately the austenitic stainless welding has several fabrication and metallurgical drawbacks when welded by using conventional fusion welding methods, which can often leads to in-service failure. The most pronounced fabrication faults are hot cracks due to inadvertent us...

A Comparative Study of Corrosive-Erosive Effects at AISI D3 Steel, 304 Stainless Steel and CrN/AlN Material

Corrosive-erosive effect on AISI D3 steel, 304 stainless steel and CrN/AlN coating in aqueous NaCl slurries was studied. CrN/AlN multilayer films with a thickness of 3 m and bilayer period of = 60 nm (50 bilayers) were obtained by using the physical vapor deposition (PVD) technique (magnetron sputtering). The corrosion-erosion experiments were performed in a test machine in which the impingemen...

Microstructural evolution of 304 austenitic stainless steel in friction stir welding process

Friction stir welding (FSW) was conducted on AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel plate with 2 mm thickness. The FSW was performed at a welding and rotational speeds of 50 mm/min and 400 rpm, respectively. Microstructure observations by the optical microscopy showed that a severe grain refinement occurred in the stir zone (SZ). Electron backscattered diffraction analysis (EBSD) results indicated...
